    Terrible Tiger?

I just got a brand new Tiger 660 to replace a 100k mile ER6. I plan to use it for commuting about 60 miles a day 1/2 motorway and 1/2 heavy traffic. On the motorway its fine, in traffic I’m sorry to say it is not very impressive - the cooling system just does not work properly - frequent overheating and now transmission problems, really disappointing. The gear change to 1 is lousy and the pickup is worse than my 10 year old ER6. Its way too revvy for traffic, a twin is much better I think.
Its just done 600 miles in less than 2 weeks and the bike is basically broken already. Anyway back to the dealer to try and fix it or swap it for something that works properly.

I live in Florida, never any overheat, or even running hot. You must have a lemon.

........frequent overheating and now transmission problems.....

What do you mean by overheating ? Is there just lots of heat coming off the engine in slow traffic or is it more that that ?

Also, please expand on what you mean by "transmission problems". Is it just getting into 1st ?

Did you have a test ride before buying ?

You may have a faulty bike as I don't recognise any of the issues you have. The engine is a peach and the bike is easy to ride in urban areas. I have never ridden an ER6 but had a CB500 for a few years and the Tiger is a far better bike.

As you are doing take it to the dealer and see what they say.

    Hi,

All Euro 5 bikes will feel much hotter than any of the none Euro or lower figure Euro machines.
My own TS 660 had some shifting issues in the beginning because of a badly adjusted Quickshifter, but that was an easy fix at the dealer.
About the “Revvy” remark, it would be useful to know what you mean by that, as the Tiger 660 is smooth between 2.5K revs all the way up to 10K…
Anyway, best of luck with your bike and dealer.

I wouldn’t take this joker too seriously. He joined the forum for the sole purpose of bagging out the bike. I doubt he even has one. Just ignore him and he’ll go away.

Well my Terrible Tiger is back from the dealer today. Apparently the wiring loom to the fan was not connected, so poor quality control at the factory it appears. All the drama from the engine and transmission was apparently due to it running too hot. So I won’t chuck it in the river just yet, but not a great start unfortunately. Anyway thanks for the tips and advice!

3k km and without any issues.  Great bike for the price in this category. Sporty if you want and relaxed if you need  :028:
